SOLIDARITY IN THE SPIRIT OF UBUNTU

Covid-19 and the pandemic that has ensued has proven that no one is immune to this virus. We are seeing individuals all over the world affected. People’s lives are being torn apart due to the loss of a loved one, the loss of employment, or the enormous economic impact this virus is having.

In a national address, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa asked, as a country, that we come together in solidarity. Now, as a school, we are asking this community to come together in the same manner. Some eight percent of our families are faced with the reality that without some type of financial aid, they will no longer be able to send their child(ren) to AISCT. These are your friends and your child’s classmates. They work in decimated industries like food and beverage, tourism, and transportation. They are just like you … they are us. While AISCT is able to provide some financial aid to qualifying families, the current financial crisis has created need beyond what the school can provide on its own.

In the spirit of Ubuntu, we are having a fundraising drive to support these families so that their children can continue to attend AISCT without interruption. It is in times of crisis when we need to come together even more, and this is one way we can do that. Based on the number of families at AISCT, if half contribute R5,000 per family, we would reach our goal of R600,000. Even if you can contribute R500 or R1,000, every bit helps. We would love for everyone to give. Your gift will go directly to support other AISCT families during this short-term crisis.

The funds raised would go into a special fund and only be allowed to support families who are struggling due to the COVID-19 crisis. Members of the School Council will oversee all donated funds to provide full transparency. AISCT is in the process of becoming a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), making all donations eligible for a Section 18A tax certificate.
