Middle School Counseling Program
The Middle School years are a time of transition and change. Students move from being in a single-teacher learning environment to a collective academic setting with several teachers. They are exposed to different teaching styles as well as different class and behavioral expectations. They have to manage these changes along with their study time, deadlines and an increased study load. In addition, students are also making the transition between the childhood and pre-teen stages, which brings its own challenges as far as peer expectations, physical and emotional growth and relationships.
It is the goal of the Middle School counselor to facilitate these changes and transitions through our many services which include
- Guided lessons through the Life Skills program which address specific needs at each grade level;
- Group and individual counseling for academic, social and personal issues;
- Conflict resolution and peer mediation;
- Organization and study skills development;
- Consultations with parents, students, teachers and administrators;
- Developing workshops and assemblies with outside professionals who address relevant topics for the Middle School.
